Apple Picking & Meeting a Long Time Blogging Friend
We have been enjoying incredible weather the last couple of days here in New Jersey! Lovely temperatures and gorgeous, sunshine-y days. This is my favorite time of year and I want to savor each and every moment before we head into fall.
Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy fall and the changing of the leaves to incredible jewel toned colors and the re-introduction of pumpkin flavored treats and there is also apple picking. Apple picking season starts late August here at the local farms and we took advantage of it this weekend and brought home some gorgeous apples!
We were already in South Jersey spending time with family and decided rather than fight the crowds at the shore, that we'd head the other direction and pick apples at Battleview Orchards. They have a nice variety of apples available for picking now. Peach season is nearing it's end but you might be able to still pick some if you get there soon.
I loved their market, which was filled with a variety of farm fresh produce and homemade pies and other treats. I couldn't resist picking up apple cider donuts to enjoy at home.
The donuts were tasty... but, Delicious Orchards donuts are still our favorite. The donuts were very fresh and soft, but I think a little less apple cider flavor than what we've tasted in others. We are fortunate to have access to some pretty amazing places that sell Jersey Fresh produce... and homemade treats.
This past week also brought someone to New Jersey who I have been friends with since I started this blog... Shelby who writes the blog, Grumpy's Honeybunch, made the trip to visit me since she was going to be in the general area last week. She was as wonderful in person as I imagined her to be and we enjoyed sharing a lunch together.
If you haven't found your way over to check out her recipes, you really should. She has some delicious family recipes as well as recipes she's developed herself. You will want to become a frequent visitor to see what she shares next... her sweet treats always leave me drooling!
Now, I need to prepare for the coming week... thank goodness it's only 4 days! It's a busy week ahead, but I have some new recipes planned which I will be sharing. I also have some summer vacation things to share as well, so stay tuned and come back to see what's new!

Shelby captured this fun selfie before we had to part ways after lunch. |
