NYC Wine & Food Festival - Grand Tasting

As I mentioned in my last post, we had the pleasure of spending a Sunday afternoon sampling some fabulous food and wine at the NYC Wine and Food Festival.  This was courtesy of ShopRite and the Potluck blog.

Here are some photos that highlight some of the tasty offerings we enjoyed:

This line of vodka from Pinnacle is something I had not tasted before... and wow, the flavors were like nothing I would have expected.  The Gummy flavor made you want to be chewing on gummy bears.  Whipped was a bit sweet, but I have heard that it makes a fabulous dessert drink.  Cake was less sweet and was very smooth.

Salt of the Earth Bakery had a number of desserts to sample, but as soon as they mentioned a caramel brownie with salted chocolate, I was sold!  Nice and dense, with a fudgey texture.  My kind of brownie!

These little cups contain a crispy corn cake and are topped with a crisp crab salad.  We went back for another taste later... they were that good!

Food Network's tag line for their wine, Entwine, caught my eye and I couldn't resist giving it a try.  The wine was pleasant and would go well with just about anything... my only complaint about their offering was that the mac and cheese they were serving was a bit on the cold side.

Iron Chef Michael Symon!  We managed to get front row seats to his demo on braising.  He was a pleasure to listen to and he explained the technique in simple terms so that anyone could do it at home.  I haven't managed to catch his new show, The Chew, but after this demo I am looking forward to checking it out.

Aahhh... Fabio Viviani was there, too.  If you are a Top Chef fan, then you know this loveable Italian!  He was delightful, at least until we realized just how much his demo was a complete live commercial for Bertolli olive oils.  I use those olive oils, so I have no issue with the product, but the fact that every word out of his mouth seemed so staged really disappointed me.

We took a walk to the outdoor pavillion and found there was even more food to sample.  This apple cider and mini donut were a lovely treat to enjoy.

Nothing like a mini cafe latte in the afternoon!

This nice man from Cooler Cleanse was chopping the tops off of coconuts for people to pour into cups and drink.  I don't really know much about their product, but the coconut water wasn't too bad... and I am not a huge fan of coconut to begin with, so that's saying something.

Looks like a great festival! I think that chef that are advertising for particular companies should work in the product while still be genuine. Otherwise, the sales pitch seems contrived.
