Steak with Blue Cheese Sauce
I love trying new recipes. Of course, that is one of the things people who write food blogs do.... so, when My Family asks me to make something more than once in a 2 week period, it's definitely worthy of a new post!
I had to laugh the first time I made this because My Oldest has developed a taste for blue cheese. Since it's such a strong flavored cheese, I thought he was going to opt-out of the sauce like His Brother. He even stirred in some of the blue cheese crumbles into this mashed potatoes. Gotta love a kid who will do that!
This is another Ellie Krieger recipe and was accompanied by a marinade for the steak. The marinade was good, but if you are going to make the sauce I wouldn't bother with the marinade because it really covers up the flavors. Kind of defeats the purpose if you ask me.
What I really want to tell you about is the super simple and amazing blue cheese sauce! I found that I was adding the sauce to my mashed potatoes as well. With only 3 main ingredients, you can throw this together while the steak rests after cooking.
Next time you grill up a steak or even a burger and want to add a little something special, throw this sauce together and the flavor will be so much more interesting than the usual barbeque sauce. The tangy flavor with the creaminess of the sauce pairs so nicely with beef.
All you need to make the sauce your steak needs is:
2 tablespoons blue cheese, crumbled
2 tablespoons low-fat buttermilk
a dash of Worcestershire sauce
Mix it all together until creamy. I added a few crumbles after drizzling on the steak for contrast and I really loved getting little bits of blue cheese in each bite.
Recipe from Ellie Krieger.
