Martha's Chocolate Devil's Food Cupcakes
Last weekend I was in the mood to bake. I didn't want to bake more cookies though... I've had this cookbook staring at me for much too long and it was time to crack it open and dive in and try something. The perfect opportunity presented itself in the form of a double playdate at our house, which means I am home for more time than normal on a weeked. This translates to time to bake something fun!
What cookbook could I possibly be referring to? Well, Martha Stewart's Cupcakes: 175 Inspired Ideas for Everyone's Favorite Treats, of course! I've got a bunch of pages marked, because everything looks and sounds sooooo good in this cookbook! I've found from past experience, that recipes in Martha's cookbooks are reliable and easy to follow.
So, with interruptions galore while I was making the Chocolate Devil's Food Cupcakes I still managed to put it all together and get them into the oven within a reasonable amount of time. There were a good number of dirty bowls and cooking utensils by the time I was done... but, it was soooo worth it! These cupcakes were moist and had a nice dense crumb. Full of chocolate flavor, but not so overpowering that kids wouldn't like them.
Rather than use the chocolate ganache as recommended in the original recipe, I opted for another Martha recipe for frosting. Her Fluffy Vanilla Frosting was super easy to make in a matter of minutes and the kids all said it tasted like "ice cream". Can't beat that kind of recommendation, huh? I am still working on my decorating skills, but love the way these cupcakes turned out! They look like pretty spring flowers!
I also shared them with some friends later that evening... and they were a huge hit with the adults, too!
