A Family Recipe: Blueberry Crumb Cake

I'm pretty lucky. Why? Because I married into a family that I truly love and they seem to love me as well. Another reason I'm lucky is because between my family and my husband's family we have a ton of fantastic family recipes! I've been trying to get to more of the family recipes so that I can document them here, and today I'm going to share My Husband's favorite, Blueberry Crumb Cake.
The first time I tried this crumb cake, I believe it was as dessert at Rosh Hashanah one year. It's a moist cake with a nice layer of crumbly-sugary goodness. If you can use fresh blueberries, you really should, even though frozen will work just fine. I love how the blueberries kind of burst with flavor with each forkful of this fantastic dessert! While this is definetely a holiday-worthy dessert you do not have to wait for a special event to enjoy it. I made this over the weekend... just because it sounded good. Sometimes that is all the reason you need.
Anyone who is not too proud to admit that they somtimes eat cake for breakfast, will LOVE this one. Yes, there have been times when I've been more excited about a leftover slice of cake for breakfast than what I should eat. Nope, not afraid to admit it either. Fortunately, I'm able to restrain myself lately... but, with this staring at me, it's very hard to resist!
From Family, Friends and Food
My mother-in-law not only gave me the recipe, but the dish to bake it in! She's pretty nice that way, you know? I think this recipe originated with our Aunt Sylvia, but it's so good that many of us have started making it ourselves. This time of year, you can grab blueberries for a pretty good price so why not give it a try yourself?

I'm going to submit this to a lovely blogging event being hosted by my friend over at Grumpy's Honeybunch and The Spiced Life called Family Recipes. I love that the whole idea behind this event is to remember those who shared fantastic recipes with us over the years and to encourage us to document them before they are lost forever. I have many more I need to get added to my blog, and this event is a great motivator! Be sure to head over to The Spiced Life on June 28th to see a full round-up of wonderful recipes!

I just love these kinds of old-fashioned cakes. In fact, I just made my mom's blueberry sweet rolls this morning and have been feeling nostalgic all day.

I can see why this is his favorite - it looks delicious!
This sounds delicious! A farmers' market near where we used to live often had fresh "Blueberry Buckles", which were rectangular cakes that sound a good bit like this one. They were always great!

Patsy,
I love anything with blueberry, especially when you add the words crumb cake to it. There is nothing like family recipes to pass down. I'm going to jot this one down and give it a try.

As I mentioned on twitter to you, Lisa made this with just a slight alteration in the amount of butter. It came out very well. - John
