Dinner, with an Asian Flair

We love Chinese food so much that we often get take-out once every weekend. While I look forward to certain dishes from our favorite place, it's always nice to be able to make something with the same flavors during the week.

I had already chosen one dish for tonight, Aromatic Noodles with Lime-Peanut Sauce, but I needed something else to go with it. So, this morning before work I decided to quickly look for a sesame marinade recipe to put some chicken in before leaving for work. I have been reading through Mark Bittman's How to Cook Everything (on loan from the library so I can decide if I really, really want it), and found a Soy-Sesame Marinade that sounded good.

Since the chicken marinated all day as it defrosted in the fridge, I only had to prepare the "peanutty" noodles. I have to say, when I took a taste of the peanut sauce... well, OH MY GOODNESS, it was so GOOD! I wasn't sure how strong the lime juice would come through, but somehow the flavors worked so well together. This one got a thumb's up from everyone in my family, so we'll be making this one again.

The marinade was very simple, yet it had a wonderful combination of flavors between the soy sauce, ginger and sesame oil. My chicken had a bit of freezer burn on it, so let's just say it was not as pretty to look at as I would have liked... so, no picture of that today. The noodles were much nicer to look at in my opinion!

This sounds very good and I love the picture! Nice plate. :) I was just looking in the asian section at the store yesterday and thought I should make more asian food. I once took an Asian cooking class but that was so long ago. You inspire me!

Patsy, we must be on the same page -- I was having a wicked craving for something Asian yesterday and ended up making Peanut Lettuce Wraps and Jasmine rice for dinner! It totally hit the spot and I can't wait to have the leftovers for lunch today -- if the sun comes out and I can get some decent lighting I'll shoot them and post the recipe on my blog.

I have that Mark Bittman book -- I think it's a great reference!

We hardly make Chinese and seem to be stuck on one recipe. I'm truly going to have to venture out and experiment more, peanut butter and lime - i'm thinking perhaps similar taste to pad thai noodles. YUM!

Thanks, Megan! Let me know if you give this a try, I am serious when I say that peanut sauce is AMAZING!

Leah - I have got to make some lettuce wraps... I keep reading about them on other blogs lately!

Deborah - thanks!

Kevin - this was the first time I made this type of sauce myself, and I was amazed at how simple and awesome it was!

Jenny - Thanks!

Pixie - I had the same problem, always the same type of Chinese stir-fry, but this one caught my eye. This one is worth trying!

Wow that sounds good . . . I've always loved the peanut/lime (and even cilantro) combo. It's like the lime lightens the peanut and gives it all a zesty little punch. Yum!
