It's not often that I am in NYC on my own, but a couple weeks ago I went into the city for a full day training class for work. I was thrilled that they didn't bring in lunch because it meant that I could go outside and take a walk in the beautiful weather and get some fresh air.
Of course, it also meant that I could find my own lunch, which I was very happy to do. Lunch is not what I was excited enough to take photos of though...
When I exited the building, I was greeted by this cute food truck. Imagine that... a food truck that sells freshly baked cupcakes! Each cupcake is handmade, so they may not look exactly identical. I'm fine with that, as long as the cupcake is not dry and tasteless.
Cupcake Stop can be found at different locations throughout NYC as well as a brick and mortar store in Montclair, New Jersey. I am thinking I need to make a trip over there sometime soon... at least the next time I need to bring some yummy treats somewhere.
As much as I would have loved to sample several flavors, I still had to go back to my class for the afternoon with no refrigerator to store my goodies. I opted to choose one cupcake for tasting... and what flavor spoke to me? The Peanut Butter Chocolate Cupcake.
The verdict? Very moist chocolate cupcake - nice and dense and not too crumbly. This is ideal since this is a take-away treat and most people will either be eating them at their desk or on the way somewhere else. The peanut butter icing is rich and a perfect compliment to the cupcake... the only thing that would take this cupcake to the next level would be to put some of that icing INSIDE the cupcake so that you could get some in each bite. This would make it even harder to resist!
I loved the cupcake, and like I said before I love that they have a store in N.J. so I can share their decadent treats with family and friends.
If you visit their website, you can view the menu of cupcakes which is quite varied. There are many flavors to choose from such as the Elvis, French Toast with Bacon and the popular Red Velvet cupake. I love that they have a suggestion form where they ask or flavor combinations from customers! If they choose your flavor combination, you will win 100 mini cupcakes! Love that!
If you are in the NYC area, go to their website or follow them on Twitter for updates throughout the day (@CupcakeStop) before lunch time to see where they will be... then you can sample these cupcakes for yourself. So much more fun than the usual food trucks with hot dogs, pretzels and falafels... those are all great NYC street food, but let's face it... it's been done for years and when something new and fun comes along, it's hard to resist giving into temptation!
One final note on this up-and-coming bakery... they do good, too! Any leftover cupcakes are donated to City Harvest. I love a company that does good within the community, when I saw that they donate the remaining cupcakes to those less fortunate it just made buying those sweet treats from The Cupcake Stop even more appealing.
What is your favorite food truck food? They seem to be popping up almost everywhere!
