What's For Dinner Wednedays: Beef Bourguinonne & Giveaway!!

We are in the last week of the What's For Dinner Wednesdays challenge! This week's recipe lends itself perfectly to cooler weather and the desire for comfort food - Beef Bourguinonne (recipe can be found HERE).

With today being rainy and one of those days when it's best if you just stay home and putter around, this week's recipe was ideal. Of course, as soon as I heard what the recipe was I couldn't help but think of Julia Child! I must say that after seeing Julie & Julia back in August, I really do admire her for her ability to keep searching for the one thing that would make her happiest. She shared so much of herself in her first cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking. In this day and age, not many people really cook that way anymore - a pound of butter, making aspic, etc. But, it is a fascinating book to read through.

Now just because you may not be familiar with French cooking, doesn't mean you haven't ever tasted or made your own version of Beef Bourguinonne. That's because it is really a beef stew. No potatoes in this recipe, but still a stew when it comes down to it. The length of cooking allows the meat to become fork-tender and if you use a good red wine (at least one you would drink), the flavor will come through wonderfully after the lengthy cooking time.
From Family, Friends and Food
I served it over egg noodles which seems to be the ideal way to enjoy this type of dish. It's cool-weather comfort food and anyone who cooks should give it a try.

This beef challenge has been fun to participate in and I'm excited to tell you that the folks at Beef. It's What's for Dinner. are allowing me to giveaway one of their fabulous gift bags!

I think everyone who has seen the movie Julie & Julia was inspired to attempt Julia Child's recipe for beef bourguignon. It is a rich, hearty and very special recipe that I am saving for a colder weekend, when I'll have time to honor the multitude of steps instructed by Julia.

My favorite way to cook beef is to slice it thinly, and stir-fry with broccoli. It's simple and good.

Perfect dish for this Fall-like weather. I actually bought the cookbook after seeing the move - now to start using it!
I enjoyed Julie and Julia, too. :) My favorite way to cook beef is in the Peruvian dish lomo saltado. Sliced thin, then stir fried with potatoes, onions, tomatoes, and spices.

I haven't made beef bourguinonne in ages - fall is the perfect time to try this recipe. As far as a favorite, I do love steak with chimichurri sauce!

My favorite way to prepare beef is on the grill. I love the smell of BBQ. Always reminds me of camping.
This looks delicious, Patsy! It's been rather cool here this week, so comfort food like this recipe is what I'm craving.
I love beef fixed just about any way, but I guess grilling is my favorite!

Thick steaks, ribeyes or T-bones preferably, grilled with a little kosher salt & pepper. Beef in it's purest state.

We like to grill steak seasoned with kosher salt during a resting period before hitting the grill, then rinsed and patted dry. When done right it doesn't need anything else, but it does taste great with caramelized onions on top. My second favorite way to eat beef is in stir fry with black bean sauce and peppers.

Do we really have to have a favorite. We love ALL Beef.... it's what's for Dinner! ;)

A good thick steak cooked slow over wood is our top choice though.
ooh, what a great giveaway- I'm all over this! I think there's no better way to cook beef than on a searing hot bbq outdoors. That's my favorite part about summer!

Oh wow, grilled steak with Bernnaise sauce. Yumy!
I'm so dull compared to everyone else. I really love a tender pot roast that's been stewing with onions and garlic in a slow cooker all day. Besides having the tender roast with potatoes and carrots, there's always enough leftover for barbecue sandwiches and cold roast beef sandwiches.

I'm sharing your giveaway with my facebook family, Patsy! Thank you hosting a great giveaway.

Depends on the time of year. In the summer, I love to grill a good steak. Now that it's getting cooler, pot roast, chili or stew is the way to go. And of course, plan for leftovers!

Great post! And the recipe looks fantastic.

My favorite way to cook beef is in the crockpot with an envelope of onion soup mix, a few cloves of garlic, and a jar of peppercinis (juice and all). After it cooks all day, I take the beef out, fork shred it, put it back in the pot, and serve it with the juice over Italian bread.

I've always wanted to try beef bourguinonne! I love beef every way, but my favorite would have to be a simple steak on the grill!
